Nadia and Carol
Nadia Comaneci is a Romanian gymnast (born 12 November 1961, in Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej [now OnestiGheorghe Gheorghiu Dej [now Onesti] Romania). She was the first person to reach a flawless 10 on an Olympic celebration. Bela Karrolyi is an Romanian gymnastics teacher who was later Comaneci's coach who first came across Comaneci aged six. Her first competition was at the junior national championships in 1969, finishing 13th. She won the competition in 1970. In 1972, during an event for communist-controlled countries' junior athletes before the Olympics she took home three medals of gold. In 1973 and 1974 she won the junior champion in all aspects. She won four gold and one silver medals at her debut competition as a senior, held in 1975. It was the first time she had competed as a senior. She won the American Cup in New York City in 1976, becoming the first female to do a backward double salto as an unmounting from uneven bars parallel to each other. Carol Wayne..................
